By integrating habitat regeneration, feral species management, and community engagement, Makuru Rewilding is dedicated to ensuring the survival of iconic native wildlife, including the Carnaby’s black cockatoo and other threatened species. The project combines traditional ecological knowledge, regenerative land practices, and scientific conservation methods to establish a thriving environment that supports biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, and long-term environmental health.
As the first initiative of its kind in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, the project pioneers new approaches to habitat restoration, blending Indigenous wisdom, modern science, and community engagement to create a replicable, scalable model for future rewilding efforts.
By working in partnership with the Wadandi Boodja Bibbulmun people and honouring Noongar seasonal knowledge, Makuru Rewilding prioritizes ethical conservation and the deep connection between culture, land, and biodiversity.
Committed to restoring ecosystems and fostering self-sustaining landscapes, the project focuses on reversing degradation, enhancing biodiversity, and ensuring long-term ecological resilience through holistic land management.
